There are currently two rival boards claiming governing authority over the Nashville International Airport, one based on a new state law whose majority members are appointed by three specific state officeholders with minority membership appointed by the city of Nashville, and a second board where majority control is with local members from Nashville.   The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will have the final say in which airport board rules the roost, but presently the governing situation at the airport looks to be in flux.

Political divides generally result in stalemates and things not getting done, or one side dominating the other, but this week the two competing boards trying to run the Nashville International Airport joined forces on one major issue and came up with a unanimous agreement on a new name for the airport.   It will take about a year to completely accomplish, but the new name of Nashville's major airport will be "Dolly Parton Interntional!"

A group of  energetic citizens have been passing petitions for the name change since the singer's death, and every member of both boards agreed that would be a fitting tribute and a well-deserved honor.

I served as a civilian social worker at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, from 2005 through 2007, a place where the nearest commercial air service is in Nashville, so during that time I became familiar with Nashville and it's large airport.  There was a park-and-fly with easy access nearby that friends recommended.  Not only was it super convenient, but ithe company whisked its clients to and from the airport in stretch limos - so the crappy-assed flying experience was tempered with a bit of luxury.  I neveer saw any of the country music stars during my several trips to the airport, but the ride in the limo always made me feel like I was one!

My memories of the Nashville International Airport are good ones, and I am very pleased to hear that Dolly Parton's name will soon be attached to it.   That makes it all the more special!
