Olive Is Fifteen!

by Pa Rock
Proud Grandpa

My oldest granddaughter, Olive Noel Macy, is fifteen today.  She is a very young sophomore in high school, having skipped a grade a couple of years ago, already driving and has her own car - and is a good student, hard worker, student activist, and social butterfly.    Olive is a very well-rounded young lady!

Olive attends a large high school in the Kansas suburbs of Kansas City, a place where an older cousin of mine graduated nearly seventy years ago.  I will think of Cousin Jack when I am at Olive's graduation a couple of years from now.

I wrote about Olive in this space last February when she and several hundred other students from her school held a student "walkout" in support of their immigrant friends who were living, and still are, in abject fear of the ICE gestapo.    Those young people recognized an important injustice that was being inflicted on their friends and school and community, so they took to the streets to do something about it.   My granddaughter and her activist fellow students make this old man feel proud and give him hope that America will once again resume the long march toward social justice and liberty for all.

Olive, life rushes by too darned fast.  Enjoy being fifteen - every minute of it!   Pa Rock and Rosie wish you the absolute best of everything!
