Republicans Threaten US Telecoms

So far the Congressional Select Committee that is investigating the January 6th attack on the US Capitol has not subpoenaed  any of the records of the major US telecom agencies, but they have requested that several major US telecom companies make efforts to secure certain records that may have some bearing on the events of that date.  The committee has apparently signaled that they will have a particular interest in examining the communications of twelve members of Congress as well as some other individuals including members of the Trump family.

CNN is now reporting that the bipartisan Congressional Select Committee has indicated an interest in seeing the communications records of the following Republican members of Congress:  Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Jim Jordan of Ohio, Mo Brooks of Alabama, Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Louie Gohmert of Texas, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Jody Hice of Georgia, Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, Andy Biggs and Paul Gosar of Arizona, most recently added, His Excellency GOP House Leader Kevin McCarthy of California!

GOP Leader McCarthy quickly responded to the possibility of upcoming subpoenas to the the big telecom companies with what appears to be a politically based threat to those same companies.    McCarthy said:

"If these companies comply with the Democrat order to turn over private information, they are in violation of federal law and subject to losing their ability to operate in the United States.   If companies still choose to violate federal law, a Republican majority will not forget and will stand with Americans to hold them fully accountable under the law."
When McCarthy's office was queried as to which federal law the companies would be violating, no response was provided.

GOP House member Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia was less diplomatic than McCarthy.  Greene said:

"These cell phone companies, these telecommunications companies, they better not play with these Democrats, because Republicans are coming back into the majority in 2022 and we will take this very serious... if they go along with this, they will be shut down. And that's a promise."

So, big telecoms, certain Republican lawmakers want you to clearly understand that if you cooperate with a legitimate, bipartisan Congressional investigative committee and honor subpoenas for information, there will be blood consequences!   Follow the law of the land and the Constitution of the United States at your own peril!

Today it was announced by the Select Committee's chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson a Democrat of Mississippi, that Rep. Liz Cheney, a Republican of Wyoming, will be the vice chair of the committee.  Things are in place, and it's time to let those subpoenas fly and get the hearings underway.   America deserves answers about the treachery of January 6th!

Those involved in the Capitol riots must be exposed and brought to justice - regardless of how important they think they are!   No more secrets, GOP!
