Third Way: Pissing in the Winds of Change

A group of Democratic Party malcontents describing itself as "centerist" has budgeted $15 million to try and defeat other Democrats whom they regard as too far left.   Of course they have.  They're Democrats, aren't they?   A hallmark of the Democratic Party is it's never ending drive toward self-destruction.

(News reports now indicate that at least some of that money is coming from a secretive health insurance lobbying group whose main objective is to kill the radical notion of "medicare for all" - which means it's probably Republican money.)

The political weasels currently stirring things up in the Democratic henhouse are calling themselves the "Third Way," which, one is led to suppose, is some sort of amalgamation of the reasonable elements from the party's fringe neighborhoods, but smells like just one more sad attempt by the party hierarchy, the old gray jackasses who were shit-kicking mules for change forty years ago, to bring its strays back into the herd.  Their specific focus seems to be discrediting and dismantling a subgroup calling itself the "Democratic Socialists of America" or "DSA."

But there is a nagging problem with the plan to regain the status quo - those strays are out spouting radical ideas and people are listening and liking what they're hearing - things like "medicare for all" - and some of those damned strays are winning elections, big ones!

That's a tough circle to square, trying to pull people back into a party that is clearly falling in on itself as it fights valiantly to keep smart ideas at bay and clever, young campaigners in the back of the campaign bus, where they belong.  But that bus is about to go over a cliff, and the survivors will be the the fighters who have taken the time and effort to learn what the world is all about in the 21st century - and they will not be intimidated or held back by name-calling rooted in the Red Scare of the 1950's.

$15 million is a pittance in today's political reality, Third Way, but have fun pissing it into the winds of change.  You're fixing to get wet and smell bad - while the rest of us are gearing up to defeat cruelty and poverty and ignorance - and win elections!
