Oprah Atones by Endorsing Fetterman

Dr. Mehmet Oz and Oprah Winfrey have been celebrity buddies since the 1990's when the mega-star Wnfrey began giving the surgeon occasional guest spots on her nationally syndicated television program.  After five years and fifty-five episodes of entertaining Oprah's live audience and viewers, Oz  headed off to pursue more money and fame in syndicated television with a show of his own.  Oprah supported the television doctor in his new pursuit, and Oz came up with a show that lasted thirteen seasons - until he decided to move from New Jersey to Pennsylvania earlier this year to pursue a seat in the United States Senate.

Oprah bears a great deal of responsibility in foisting the television doctor on America, and should he get elected to the senate, she would own much responsibility for that as well.

But apparently Oprah Winfrey does not want the added humiliation of being responsible for placing another Trump bootlicker on the senate roster, and yesterday she moved to publicly atone for her misguided role in helping to launch Mehmet Oz onto the national political scene.  On Thursday Oprah endorsed Oz's opponent in the senate race, Pennsylvania's current lieutenant governor, John Fetterman.

Fetterman seems to be well pleased over the very public boost to his campaign from Oprah.  He said:

"It is an honor and a privilege to have Oprah's support in this race.   She is a leader on so many issues - fighting for our democracy, passing commonsense gun reform, and ensuring racial justice.  I'm grateful for Oprah's support and trust on the issues that matter to the people across the country and Pennsylvania as we close out this campaign."

During Oprah's endorsement of Fetterman, she also voiced support for several other Democrats in tight US Senate races, including:  Cheri Beasly of North Carolina, Val Demings of Florida, Mandela Barnes of Wisconsin, and incumbents Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada and Raphael Warnock of Georgia, as well as gubernatorial Democratic  candidates Beto O'Rourke of Texas and Stacey Abrams of Georgia.

Celebrity endorsements, of course, are just one small part of an overall campaign strategy, but in a race as close as the senate race in Pennsylvania appears to be, a public boost from a national influencer like Oprah Winfrey certainly can't hurt.

But there are still four days left until the actual election, and lots of things can happen.  Maybe Dr. Oz can score another big-name endorsement of his own.  Perhaps he could land Dr. Phil - or maybe even Dr. Pepper!
