Yesterday Twitter permanently suspended the personal account of an extremist national legislator, GOP Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. Two other members of Congress, both Republicans, have received short-term suspensions from Twitter, but Greene is now the first sitting member of Congress to have an account be permanently suspended. As of this morning Greene's congressional account on Twitter was still operational. Her personal account had 465,000 followers, and her congressional account has three-hundred-and-ninety-thousand.
The tweet which brought about the permanent suspension was a spurious graph that reportedly showed deaths related to COVID vaccines.
Twitter pulled Greene's personal account over her repeated posting of misinformation and lies regarding COVID-19. The company said that they took the action as a result of Greene's fifth violation of company policy regarding her COVID claims.
Greene, of course, took Twitter's action as a personal assault on her freedom of speech. The overly-dramatic Rep. Greene channeled her best Jack Nicholson when she declared:
"Twitter is an enemy to America and can't handle the truth. It can't stop the truth from being spread far and wide. Big Tech can't stop the truth. Communist Democrats can't stop the truth."
Rep. Greene, who in the past has blamed wildfires on "Jewish space lasers" and compared wearing face masks to the holocaust, is known for making outlandish statements without any basis in fact, and Twitter apparently reached its tolerance limit.
Marjorie Taylor Greene saying Twitter an enemy of America and that it can't handle the truth is a textbook example of projection, and a member of the Party of Putin trying to mix communism into national politics is almost laughable. Almost.
Thank you, Twitter, for having standards and enforcing them.
