The longest known televised presidential cabinet meeting in US history occurred this past Tuesday at the White House as Donald Trump's clown cabinet convened for just over three hours and sixteen minutes. Most of that time was consumed with the various cabinet secretaries taking prolonged turns at seeing who could heap the most effusive praise on their Dear Leader. It was a show of sycophancy that would have embarrassed lesser men, but Trump wallowed in the glorification cast upon him by his underlings.
Trump is a person who loves to have his ego stroked, something that the former Fox News personalities and political "yes" people who make up his cult of a cabinet all realize - so they dutifully bend their knees, lick their lips, an do what has to be done.
Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Trump's Secretary of Labor, was especially efficacious with her invitation for Trump to stop by the Department of Labor to see the large banner featuring his scowling face that has been hung on the front of the department's building. "Mr. President," she said, stroking his vanity, "I invite you to see your big, beautiful face on a banner in front of the Department of Labor because you are really the transformational president of the American worker."
That load of barnyard manure would have taken the gaslighting prize for the week if Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had not gone on Face the Nation yesterday and told a falsehood that was even more egregious.
While discussing the strong possibility of some upcoming military intrusions into US cities controlled by Democrats, Noem referenced the federal invasion of Los Angeles earlier in the summer and said, "I do know that LA wouldn't be standing today if President Trump hadn't taken action." Her hyperbole was met with disdain by many of the people who live and work in Los Angeles. When Noem's statement was later posted on "X" in the form of a tweet, podcaster Tommy Vietor, a Los Angeles resident, tweeted back:
"There were protests in three downtown blocks of LA over the course of a a few days. No one here wanted or needed troops on the streets - Kristi Noem is comically full of shit, per usual."
But California's Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom was even more succinct and to-the-point in his reejoinder to Noem's statement. Newsom said on "X":
"Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha"
The only American the Trump administration is concerned with helping and keeping happy is Old Flatterpuss himself.
