U.S. Military Cancels Diversity Celebrations

The United States military which is now under the stewardship of former Fox weekend television host and current secretary of defense, Pete Hegseth, has issued, through the Defense Department's intelligence agency, a list of cultural celebrations which will be "paused," or, in layman's language, "not observed until further notice."  They seem to be in strong alignment with Trump's moves to eliminate DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) from America's government and cultural landscape.

The eleven observances which the leadership of the military have removed from their operational calendars are:

  • Martin Luther King, Jr Day  (mid-January)
  • Holocaust Remembrance Day  (January 27th)
  • Black History Month)   (February)
  • Women's History Month   (March)
  • Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month   (May)
  • LGBTQ Pride Month   (June)
  • Juneteenth   (June 19th)
  • Women's Equality Day   (August 26)
  • National Hispanic Heritage Month   (mid-September through mid-October)
  • National Disability Employment Awareness Month   (October)
  • National American Indian Heritage Month   (November)
President's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas remain unscathed, at least for the time being.

Donald Trump may not present as the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but his ferrets and weasels definitely know what they are doing and they seem to take pride in their villainy.

There is a method to this purge of historic, cultural, and ethnic celebrations, and to poorly paraphrase James Carville, "It's the racism, stupid - and the misogyny, homophobia, ableism, and anti-semitism."  Trump's version of America is quickly being hammered into a shape that will only accommodate certain types of individuals.  If you are not a straight, white, able-bodied, Christian male, you probably won't be a good fit in this government - but you might try Costco. Microsoft, or Apple, all of which still openly maintain and support diversity, equity, and inclusionary policies.

It's going to be a very long four years!

They may pretend to be Christians. I doubt however, there is sufficient evidence to convict them of that charge.
