Eminem Kneels for Kaepernick and for All of Us

Kudos to rapper Eminem who used his entertainment platform at Sunday’s Super Bowl to kneel in solidarity with NFL outcast Colin Kaepernick.  The rapper used the halftime show of the National Football League’s most important event of the year to stage his social protest.  He made his point, and he made it well.

There are some news reports circulating which state that the NFL had warned Eminem in blunt terms not to kneel during his performance - and other reports saying that the football overlords knew that the protest was coming and chose to let it happen. But regardless of the NFL’s action or lack thereof on the matter, Eminem chose to do it his way and ended his performance with a kneel seen round the world.

The national anthem was not playing while Eminem knelt, but his gesture apparently managed to trigger a particular segment of the viewing public - an indication that their wrath may have been rooted in something more than just a misguided sense of patriotic fervor.

Freedom of speech matters, fair policing practices matter, and black lives matter.  Thank you, Eminem and Colin Kaepernick, for reminding us of those often uncomfortable, but always important, truths.  You make us better people!
