While Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz may not be overly proficient when it comes to things like legislating and doing his job, he does seem to have a knack for meandering around some of the more interesting dark alleys of cyberspace. It was through news stories about Gaetz and his Florida political wingman, Joel Greenberg, that I first learned about "Venmo," a way to transfer money via a cell phone app between individuals such as pervy politicos and young hookers. And just yesterday Gaetz mentioned "Bumble" in a tweet, and after a bit of digging, I learned that it is one of those cyberspace places where lonely singles go to "hook-up," a.k.a. an on-line dating application. (While I assume there is a charge for using "Bumble," I am still not clear on whether it accepts "Venmo" or not.)
(An aside: How much longer will it be until merchants quit accepting cash?)
Matt Gaetz is an interesting fellow, and while he may not be much of a congressman, he does have enough in the way of personal wealth and social connections to allow him to feel superior to many of us lesser-beings. Gaetz exercised his innate superiority yesterday, along with a healthy dollop of male privilege, when he tweeted the following insult regarding the women who have been out protesting the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion that shows the Court is about to overturn Roe v. Wade:
"How many of the women rallying against overturning Roe are over-educated, under-loved millennials who sadly return from protests to a lonely microwave dinner with their cats, and no bumble matches?"
Over-educated women are obviously a turn-off for Gaetz, as well as a threat. Perhaps that is why he runs around with Marjorie Taylor Greene. And Gaetz is certainly too good to hang around internet lonely hearts sites - if Matty wants a date all he has to do is pull up his "Venmo" app.
