Having a person like Donald Trump in the White House has consequences that ripple across society. Don't ever believe that he doesn't bring out the absolute worst in us, because he does.
There is a horrific video currently all over Twitter that shows a large white cop, in uniform, on the ground beating the holy hell out of a black child. The kid is small, thin, and probably somewhere between the ages of ten and thirteen. Supposedly the incident came about as the result of the child having a cigarette - and supposedly it occurred in California.
The policeman in the video was a big man - tall and stout - and probably in his late thirties or early forties. He was not some gung-ho novice to the police force who was just beginning to learn how to use his power responsibly, but rather he was a man who had been wearing that uniform for several years and should have had some self-control. In the video he slammed the child from side to side, viciously banging the kid's head on the sidewalk, and then he would take an occasional break from wrestling with his victim, who was at most a quarter of the man's size, and begin punching him in the torso and head with his fists.
It was a frenzied, brutal attack perpetrated by a raging maniac against a small human being who had absolutely no way of defending himself.
It was sickening.
And it was a clear reflection of a racist America that has been enabled and emboldened by Donald John Trump.
Please go to Twitter and see what we have become - if you dare. It is an ugly, sickening sight.

Watched the KTLA morning news show online this morning. The officer, from Rancho Cordova P.D, witnessed an adult give something to the boy. He pursued the child. The boy had asked the adult to buy cigarettes for him. The apparent aggression against the child was predicated on the child's refusal to provide a description of the adult.
Think about that. The officer said he saw that adult hand something to the teenager. And now he needs a description?
The teenager made a statement taking responsibility for the incident. How hard is it to psychologically coerce an admission of guilt from a teenager that just got beat down?
According to an article on an internet new site (DailyKos) this morning, the youth was fourteen-years-old and was attacked by the policeman because he was holding a "Swisher" cigar. His sister reported that he suffered scratches and chest pains - and that he has a heart condition.
The link to the KTLA story is here: https://ktla.com/news/california/norcal-police-investigating-after-viral-video-shows-deputy-punching-14-year-old-boy/.
The story says "A deputy was patrolling an area of the city after complaints of alcohol, tobacco, and drug sales to minors and “saw what he believed to be a hand-to-hand exchange between an adult and juvenile,” according to a statement from the Rancho Cordova Police Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office." The Deputy then says he lost site of the adult.
Then the police union steps in and starts a misinfomation campaign. Remember the officer was specifically looking at what he believed was a sale between an adult and a juvenile. Here's the coverup: "Kevin Mickelson, president of the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association, said the deputy did not know the teen’s age at the time of the incident and suggested his failure to comply with orders prompted the altercation.
“He did not know he was a juvenile at the time,” said Mickelson. “Had that person complied with the officer’s directives this would be a zero — we wouldn’t be talking about this.”
That pretend excuse doesn't fit neatly with the officer's side of the story.
Of course if this kid does have a heart condition he should stop smoking immediately.
"He did not know he was a juvenile at the time." Take a look at the video, then. The kid looks a lot closer to eight-years-old than he does to fourteen. The cop was four times his size - and armed! Sorry Kevin Mickelson, but your evaluation of the situation does not pass the smell test - or the video record!
