While polluting the air waves of a local Phoenix radio station this week, political has-been Jan Brewer managed to stir a bit of desert dust when she referred to Hillary Clinton as a "lying killer." The former governor of the Scorpion State had been trying to make the case that Democrats could not win Arizona when she inexplicably coughed up this hairball:
Later, as Brewer was trying to dig her way out of the slander hole, she offered the explanation that "lying killer" was just a "mispronunciation" of the Democratic nominee's name. She added, "I was trying to say Hillary Clinton. It was a stumble of the tongue." An alternative explanation might be that the Sand Hag had taken one too many spins on her bar stool.
In Brewer's defense, politicians in Arizona have to be outrageous in order to make headlines because most available news oxygen is gobbled up by Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The 84-year-old lawman who, like Brewer, is also an ardent Donald Trump supporter, is currently behind in the polls in his bid for re-election to a seventh term as sheriff of Maricopa County - and he appears likely to be facing contempt of court charges over his blatant disregard of a 2007 court order to stop racial profiling - a staple of Arpaio's police procedures.
It's hard to miss Arizona - but Pa Rock tries!
