Proud Grandpa
My oldest grandson, Boone Macy, turns fourteen-years-old today, and I could not be prouder of him. Boone will graduate from eighth grade at Junction Hill School in West Plains, Missouri, in one week, and next fall he will head off to West Plains High School where he will officially become a "Zizzer." (Don't ask. I don't have a clue what "Zizzers" are - but they have been the West Plains mascots for generations!)
Boone has gone to Junction Hill since before kindergarten, so the formal move to the high school in West Plains will probably be a bit of a cultural shock for him. The little independent Junction Hill School has been a good experience for my grandson. He won his classroom spelling competition every year that he was there - undoubtedly setting some sort of school record. And small schools offer many experiences that are more difficult to come by in larger schools. (Today his class took a road trip to Springfield where they went ice skating. Boone said that was a very "hard" experience!)
Uncle Tim made a point of telling Boone that his father, Nick, got a canoe as a present for his graduation from eighth grade. I'm sure Nick appreciated that bit of family history getting passed along!
Happy birthday, Boone! Do well in high school and enjoy it!
