Trump Presidency Flames Out in Unsuccessful Coup Attempt

Donald Trump's joke of a presidency came to a screeching halt yesterday, two full weeks before its scheduled end, as Trump supporters, decked out in military gear and carrying banners, flags, and guns, stormed into the United States Capitol and tried unsuccessfully to lead a coup against this country's elected government.  It was a shameless chapter in American history that had been spurred on and energized by the ramblings and incessant lies of Donald Trump.

Protestors had been gathering in the DC area for the preceding twenty-four hours when Donald Trump spoke to the group on the Ellipse, a large park located south of the White House - where he continued to encourage the anarchy.  Trump's personal lawyer, crackpot Rudy Giuliani, also addressed the group and called for "trial by combat."   Trump and Giuliani then quickly returned to the White House where they likely hunkered down in front of a television and watched the Trump-inspired chaos on Fox.

Four people died in the chaos at the Capitol yesterday.   Ashli Elizabeth Babbitt, a 35-year-old resident of San Diego who had served multiple tours in the Air Force, was shot in the neck by Capitol Police as participated in a group who were trying to break into the House Chamber.  She died later in an area hospital.  Also three other rioters died of what was termed "medical emergencies."

Fourteen police officers were injured in the riot, and over fifty arrests were made.

Trump's former Secretary of Defense, Marine Corps General James Mattis, issued the following statement regarding the day's insurrection:

"Today's violent assault on our Capitol, an effort to subjugate American democracy by mob rule, was fomented by Mr. Trump.  His use of the Presidency to destroy trust in our election and to poison our respect for fellow citizens has been enabled by pseudo political leaders whose names will live in infamy as profiles in cowardice."

Donald Trump fomented the attempted coup, and he owns the turmoil, bloodshed, death, and destruction that ruled the day.  It was Trumps's show, and it ended his presidency.

Good riddance!
