Death and Resignations, Capitol Carnage Continues

The death toll from Wednesday's armed hillbilly attack on the nation's Capitol has now officially risen to five with the death yesterday of Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick, aged 42.  Officer Sicknick, a native of New Jersey and a veteran of our nation's wars in the Middle East, died of an apparent blood clot in the brain after  he was reportedly struck in the head with a fire extinguisher during the insurrection at the Capitol the day before.  His death is currently being treated as a homicide and is being investigated by the Capitol Police.  However, because the attack on the police officer took place on federal property, the FBI is expected to soon take over the investigation.

The party of law and order now owns the violent death of a white policeman.  That can't be sitting well with the GOP patriarchy.

That's five dead people:  One young woman was shot in the neck by Capitol Police as she and others tried to force their way into the House Chamber, a police officer suffered a fatal head injury that is being investigated as a homicie, and three others died of "medical emergencies" during the rampant violence and disorder.    There were numerous other injuries that required medical treatment and even hospitalization.  And it all happened in the US Capitol Building, the very heart of America''s once vibrant democracy!

In other fallout from Donald Trump's failed coup attempt, two Trump cabinet secretaries have announced their resignations as a result of Wednesday's bloody violence.  Yesterday Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said that she had had enough of Trump and would be leaving the administration effective Monday.  Chao did say that she would stand ready to help  her successor, Biden appointee Pete Buttigieg, as he assumes the mantle of Transportation Secretary.  In real life, Secretary Chao is Mrs. Mitch McConnell.

This morning billionaire Betsy DeVos, a major donor to the Trump campaign and to many Republicans nationwide, announced that she was stepping down as Secretary of Education.  She, too, expressed disgust with Trump's incitement of mob violence in the nation's capital.  DeVos, known to many as "Cruella DeVos," has spent the entire four years of the Trump administration trying to defund and undercut public education and to divert tax money to meet the needs of private, religious, and charter schools.  Of late she had made it known that she was encouraging career officials within th Department of Education to resist the efforts of the incoming Biden administration to dismantle her elitist concept of education.

And, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer are demanding that Vice President Pence begin efforts to take Trump out of power through the 25th Amendment.  The two angry Democrats placed a call to Pence yesterday, and reportedly finally hung up after Pence kept them on hold for twenty-five minutes!  There is a petition circulating among House members to impeach Trump - again - and Pelosi is indicating that the House may proceed with that action if Pence does not act on invoking the 25th Amendment.

There is going to be hell to pay for that hillbilly from Gravette, Arkansas, putting his filthy feet on Nancy Pelosi's desk!

What will today bring?
