Citizen JournalistEveryone knew that petty and vindictive Donald Trump would wreak vengeance on anyone who dared to speak against him once the impeachment trial was over, and yesterday, right on cue, heads began to roll and were then placed atop the pikes of public scrutiny to serve as warnings to others not to ever speak against their Lord and Master.
Yesterday Trump recalled (fired) Gordon Sondland, the U.S. Ambassador to the European Union who had testified as a part of the House impeachment inquiry. Sondland, a hotelier and businessman, had essentially bought his ambassadorship by donating a million dollars to the Trump Inauguration Committee. But, deep pockets or not, Trump would not tolerate someone whom he saw as a rat.
Trump also fired Army LTC Alexander Vindman, a wounded veteran of the Iraq War and the Director of European Affairs for the US National Security Council because he, like Sondland, honored a subpoena and testified in the House impeachment inquiry. LTC Vindman was escorted from the White House in an effort to impose maximum humiliation on the decorated veteran. Trump said he had been fired for being "insubordinate."
Also escorted from the White House was Army LTC Yevgeny "Leonoid" Vindman, a senior lawyer and ethics official who, like his younger twin brother Alexander, worked with the National Security Council. Leonoid Vindman was not a witness to Trump's incriminating telephone call with the president of Ukraine - as his brother had been - and had not testified before the House panel that was investigating Trump. Leonoid Vindman appeared to have suffered collateral damage just for being related to Alexander.
Maine's gullible Senator Susan Collins who had said prior to her vote in the Senate to acquit Trump that she believed he had learned his lesson, yesterday admitted that he may have not learned anything from the experience after all.
One is left to wonder if Senator Collins learned anything from the experience?
