The irony was substantial - and very tragic. This morning while Vice President Biden was
holding a news conference on the subject reforming gun laws in America, CNN cut
away from the event to report on yet another school shooting.
That’s right:
another day, another school shooting.
This latest affront to civilization occurred at Taft High
School in Taft, California, thirty miles south of Bakersfield. A
sixteen-year-old angry young man walked into a classroom with a shotgun and
shot one student in the chest. He
reportedly then fired at another student and missed. The
victim was transported by air ambulance to a hospital in Bakersfield where he
remains in critical condition.

The Vice President’s group on gun violence will make its
report and recommendations to the President next Tuesday. Today’s shooting at Taft High School adds one more bloody exclamation point to the need to do something rational
to bring down the level of gun violence in America – especially at our
schools.
America is in crisis. Stand tall, Mr. Vice President, and speak clearly. The time to act decisively is upon us.
