I read a couple of interesting facts in a blog this morning which have worked their way under my skin and are continuing to be an irritation. The first one was that there are more guns in the United States than there are people, something that I already. knew. When you factor in the realization that many people you and I know do not own any guns at all, that leaves the reality that there are people among us who own many, many personal guns, and lots of those folks also have at least one showpiece weapon, like an AR-15, which can automatically or semi-automatically spray bullets at their intended victims - such as liberals and other commies who are secretly preparing to attack American gun owners under the cover of darkness and steal their stockpiles of weapons.
The second fact, one that I did not already know but am certainly not surprised to discover, was that less than half of Americans have read a book in the past year. That's understandable because reading something as complicated as a book requires a certain amount of time and concentration, and those are hard commodities to come by when you are constantly responding to pings on the phone alerting you to new Facebook postings featuring cats on skateboards. Dostoevsky will have to wait while you pore over the stomach issues of a friend from high school whom you haven't seen in thirty-five years. There just isn't time to sit down and read a damned book!
Taken together, those statements would indicate that more people are likely to have gun safes in their homes than they are to have bookcases, and armories are more common in homes than libraries. We are a nation awash in ignorance and paranoia, and we are being led by a cult of politicians who cultivate and exploit that sad and dangerous reality.
Here's a crime-fighter fact from Pa Rock: Thieves almost never break into homes to steal books, but guns are always high on their lists of things to grab.
Guns invite criminals into your home.
