Everybody Hates Elon

The Gallup organization conducted a poll of Americans last month that included an item on determining favorability rankings of fourteen prominent international newsmakers.   The poll listed the names of people who were regularly appearing in the news, and then had respondents check whether they viewed each individual favorably, unfavorably, or had no opinion on the person.  The favorability rating was achieved by taking the percentage of favorable responses for each of the fourteen people and then subtracting their unfavorable responses.

For example, Pope Leo came in first on the list with a favorability rating of +46.  He had 57% favorable responses and 11 percent negative - for a net of +46.  The responders to the poll only vieiwed two of the others in a net positive light:  Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with +18 and Vermont's Senator Bernie Sanders with a +11.

The eleven who scored underwater with more unfavorables than favorables were (in descending order):

French President Emmanuel Macron     -1
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez      -4
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.    -5
Former President Joe Biden     -11
Vice President JD Vance     -11
California Governor Gavin Newsome     -11
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth     -12
President Donald Trump     -16
Secretary of State Marco Rubio     -16
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu     -23
Elon Musk     -28

A few observations:

  • The Gallup organization had best lawyer up.  Trump sued a pollster in Iowa last year because he didn't like her results.
  • RFK, Jr, JD Vance, and Pete Hegseth had all best get their grovel on because the boss definitely will not like being upstaged by any of his official underlings.
  • Bibi Netanyahu did far better than he should have.  Of course, so did Trump and Musk.
Elon, you definitely should go into politics.  Please run for something, anything - as a Republican!
