US Taxypayers Fund Golf Getaway to Scotland

Donald Trump, in his political life-and-death struggle to outrun questions about his years-long friendship with pedophile and convicted child sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, has today fled to Scotland for a long weekend (five days) of golf on two golf courses that he personally owns - and the trip is, of course, on the taxpayer's dime.

Trump usually spends his weekends golfing at his club in Florida or sometimes at the one in New Jersey (especially in August), and always courtesy of America's overly generous taxpayers.   This weekend he is checking out his facilities in the country that invented golf, which is also the country where his immigrant mother was born.

Trump, who only travels with press whom he deems to be friendly to him and his agenda, is undoubtedly hoping for some peace and quiet as he golfs and has occasional discussions about trade policy and tariffs with officials from the UK.  But peace and quiet may be as difficult to come by in Scotland and Britain as it is here in the US.  There were protesters waiting to greet him as Air Force One landed in Glasgow this morning, and protests are also expected when his visits Aberdeen and Edinburgh in the next couple of days.

The Trump motorcade to his golf course in Turnberry also encountered protesters holding signs mentioning him and Epstein.  (The motorcade included more that twenty-four vehicles, some of which were transported from the United States, also on our dime.)

The press is unlikely to grant Trump any respite.  Two of the major newspapers in Great Britain, The Sun and The Times, are owned by Rupert Murdoch, the man who, along with his American newspaper, The Wall Street Journal, Trump is currently suing for $10 billion - over a story about Trump and Epstein.

But that is all just politics and noise.  The important thing is that our elderly President is out in the sun getting some healthy exercise and we are helping by footing the bill.

It's a great feeling to know that in a world ravaged by war, disease, starvation, and pestilence, the are a few people who can always enjoy the finest things that life has to offer.

FORE!
