Monday's Poetry: "We Will Not Vote for You!" (A Poem to Donald Trump)

Today's poem is a political piece by Elizabeth Coreas.  It first ran on the website HuffPost on October 27, 2015.  One year later, on October 27, 2016, a week before Americans embarrassed themselves at the polls, HuffPost ran an updated version of the poem.  The updated version follows.

Donald Trump is not on the ballot tomorrow, a fact he readily admits.  But he claims that regardless of his name not being on the ballot, this election is still all about him.  And while Trump is probably best known for lying about nearly everything, even when he has no apparent need to, many Americans would agree that he is right about the primary issue tomorrow - it's him!  Of course, in the true spirit of Trumpism, all Republican victories tomorrow will be a direct result of his positions on the issues and personal charm, and all Democratic victories will either be dishonest or the result of "dark" forces like the media or Republicans failing to follow his majestic guidance in their campaigns and adequately tout all of his inspired positions.

Credit goes to Trump, blame resides elsewhere - always!

But the actual election is still one day away, and while record numbers of Americans have already voted, many more will do so tomorrow.

Today is a good day to spend some time reflecting on the person who sees himself as the center of everything and the focus of everyone:  Donald John Trump.   Elizabeth Coreas is obviously not as enamored of Donald Trump as he is of himself, but whether Trump believes it or not, every voice matters - and this is hers - with simple words and phrasing - and rage profound.

We Will Not Vote for You!
(A Poem to Donald Trump)

by Elizabeth Coreas

Who is this man before us?
This man so full of hate?
This man who if turned President
Thinks to seal our fate?

Who is this man before us?
His voice so arrogant and loud
His nostrils flaring when he speaks
His heart so cold and proud.

"Build a wall!"  We hear him shout
"Let's keep illegals out!"
"Those born here are all the same
They all entered the same route!"

Oh how your ignorance consumes you
Oh what a fool you are
Men like you have come and gone
Yet you're the worst by far.

YOU are the rapist, Mr. Trump
You raped us with your words
You tried to strip our dignity
And make us lose our worth.

Open your eyes and see our fathers
who work until they bleed
Until their feet are filled with calluses
Just to meet our needs.

Open your eyes and look at us
to through your eyes of anger
We are the future of America
And not what you call "Anchor."

We crush not your economy
We do not steal your jobs
We do the work that others won't
Because they're lazy snobs.

You underestimate our votes
And your failure is foreseen
Polls will open soon
And more will turn 18.

This is the message we are sending
A message strong and true
Our voices rise together:
WE WILL NOT VOTE FOR YOU!
