Donald Trump is a chronic bully who quickly resorts to apocalyptic language when it comes to threatening Iran. He famously said, for instance, that "a whole civilization will die tonight" if Iran failed to meet one of his many deadlines for a peace deal. Much to Trump's chagrin, however, Iran figured him out quickly and tends to ignore his noise. But being a bully and roaring threats into the wind is Trump's modus operandi, and one that he's been practicing since childhood. Never admit that you are wrong or don't understand something - just get louder.
A civilization did not end that night, and by the next morning Trump was focused on some other high-level presidential activity, like remodeling a White House bathroom.
But Trump's rage mode is always hovering somewhere close by and tends to flicker on an off like a bargain store lightbulb. Yesterday that was on full display when Trump took to social media to respond to recent news reports that the Iranian government has him targeted for assassination. Trump rage-threatened:
"1,000 missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republ;ic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat, pronounced in many corners of the Globe, to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME!"
Does Trump not understand th concept of death? Does he even have an inkling that if he's dead, somebody else will be making the decisions about how to retaliate - for instance, like that guy he's been publicly comparing unfavorably to Marco Rubio for the past year?
If somebody pulls your time card, Donald, or mine, or anyone else's, we might be out there in the Great Beyond raging like hell, but nobody's going to hear us. What happens next will be somebody else's decision - and the guy in the box will have no say in the matter.
