Proud Grandpa
My second oldest grandchild, Sebastian Files, was born on this day in 2007 in the very hot city of Phoenix, Arizona. Sebastian and his family moved out of Arizona during his first year of life, but he is destined to always remember the place of his birth because his parents chose "Phoenix" for his middle name.
Today Sebastian is thirteen. We haven't had an official teenager in the family since his older cousin, Boone, turned twenty a little over a year ago - but with today's birthday our family should be blessed with teenagers until Sully reaches the age of twenty in 2036. So let the good times roll!
Sebastian was born the day after the Fourth of July holiday, and missing the holiday by one day is a bit of a family tradition. His cousin Boone arrived one day late for Cinco de Mayo and his cousin Sullivan came one day after Juneteenth. I always thought that if Sebastian had been born on the Fourth of July that "Firecracker" or "Sky Rocket" would have been great names - but, of course, he wasn't - and no one asked me anyway! And that's just as well because Sebastian Phoenix Files is a great name - one that is destined to be known for great achievements!
Sebastian, I know that you and Judah and Willow have had a difficult several months being stuck at home during the Great Pandemic of 2020. Hang tough because it will soon be over and you all will be back in school with your friends and teachers. But in the meantime stay safe and try to have as much fun as you can. (After the cake and ice cream today, maybe the three of you can head to the backyard with your new supersoakers and wash up while having some fun!)

Sebastian had this post up on his computer earlier today, so I know he's seen it. He asked me a week or so ago if I thought you would write a blog about him on his birthday. He's been looking forward to it! We watched a great fireworks show last night at the neighbor's. The kids even got to do sparklers. Sebastian was ecstatic about this. That was probably one of his favorite parts of his birthday. His favorite gifts were likely the new top hat, the Titanic dvd (which he's watched almost twice already), a white dress shirt to wear with his suit, a nice brown derby style hat, an autographed photo of Laurel & Hardy, and a new phone!
