The War on Iran Affects Us All

The Pentagon says it has spent upwards of $29 billion on the weaponry used to bomb Iran since we helped Israel to start that war on February 28th of this year, but weaponry is just a minor ticket item in the actual costs of war - any war.  Our military has its operational costs (undoubtedly higher than what they are voluntarily reporting), Israel's military has their own costs, so does Iran, and so does every other nation that has been drawn into the war.  There are costs associated the bombs, the planes and drones that drop them, the lives lost and ruined by the bombs, the property destroyed or damaged, and the increased costs to the world economy as a result of the war.

While Americans at home have been spared the actual threat of bombs dropping from the sky on themselves and their loved ones, they have not been completely spared the economic impacts of war.

Earlier this week The Climate Solutions Lab and Costs of War Project at Brown University released a research brief that showed Americans have spent an additional $42 billion on gas and diesel since the beginning of the war - or roughly an additional $300 per household.

And as the price of fuel rises so, too, do the prices of goods that have to be transported to US markets.  We are spending more to travel to the retail stores, and then spending more once we get there.  And all of that is on top of any import tariffs that Trump had already placed on crops or goods coming to the US from abroad.

We are not drenched in blood nor stumbling through rubble and the smoke and stench of war, but we are definitely being impacted.  And all of the suffering, theirs and ours, is the result of political egos run amok.

Donald Trump described rising fuel prices as "peanuts," and said that he does not even think about it - one of the few times that was probably telling the truth.

Trump's priority is a grand ballroom and any news story that will keep the public's attention away from Jeffrey Epstein - and we are paying a dear price to stroke his ego and hide his shame.
