Bezos Folds as Elderly Politician Throws Hissy Fit

Good news regarding rich guy Jeff Bezos or his flagship company, Amazon. com, is often hard to come by, but earlier this week there was a ray of sunshine emanating from Seattle when a news story broke which said Amazon would be showing how much the Trump tariffs had added to the cost of the items they are selling.   That definitely had the ring of a consumer-friendly overture from one of the world's largest retailers, and a move that would have taken some heat off of the company for its sudden higher pricing due to Trump's tariffs and the retaliatory tariffs imposed by other countries.

But the Trump administration is decidedly not friendly to consumers and certainly cannot be bothered by their opinions during a non-election year.  No sooner had that news leaked, however,  when White House flak Karoline Leavitt raced to a microphone and made the administration's displeasure known by telling reporters that the move to highlight the actual cost of the tariffs to consumers was a "hostile and political act."

When the boss, Don Trump, finally got his make-up on and sauntered into the office later in the day, he telephoned the real billionaire in Seattle and expressed his displeasure at the idea - and Bezos immediately folded like the proverbial "cheap card table."  The majority owner of Amazon stock tried to brush it off as "fake news," saying that the company had never really planned to be that open with its customers.  Another Amazon spokesperson said the plan had been considered by one of Amazon's departments but was now "not going to happen."

Game, set, and match:  Trump.

So, for the time being at least, Amazon.com and the United States of America will both continue doing business as usual - and transparency and public accountability be damned.  Trump will tell Americans what he thinks they need to know, and Jeff Bezos will sit in a corner with his mouth shut.

Amazon lost its class and its backbone when MacKenzie left.

(Note:  The price of Amazon stock has dropped 15% this year and 5% since Trump's "Liberation Day" on April 2nd.)
