Eric Schmitt's War on Women's Health

When the United States Supreme Court ruled to overturn the fifty-year-old constitutional right of American women to choose to terminate a pregnancy through a medical abortion this past June and instead leave the matter up to the states, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt raced to make Missouri the first state in the union to ban the procedure under Supreme Court's Dobbs v Jackson decision.  Schmitt quickly issued an attorney general's opinion to the Missouri Revisor of statutes that "triggered" parts of Missouri's House Bill 126 - a move that effectively ended abortion in the state of Missouri.

It was a political maneuver with the primary goal of benefiting Schmitt's campaign for a US Senate seat from Missouri, and it was accomplished with a speed that would have impressed Richard Petty.  The country was kicking Roe to the curb, and Eric Schmitt wanted the voters in his state to know that he was one badass Roe-kicker.

Of course, as the summer wore on, it became evident that the majority of Americans were not in agreement with the Supreme Court's reversal of Roe.   Poor Eric had rushed to plant his flag on a hill that was quickly eroding.  Not only had the opportunistic politician almost single-handedly ended the right to an abortion in Missouri, he had also spoken out against the procedure under any circumstance - including in cases of rape and incest.

Eric Schmitt is out-of-step with Missouri.   A poll by Saint Louis University and YouGov showed that Missourians overwhelmingly support a woman's right to abortion in cases of rape, incest, and when the life of the woman is in danger.  Missourians, it would seem, are far more attuned to common sense and humanity than is their state's attorney general.

Schmitt's opponent, Trudy Busch Valentine, is a registered nurse, a mother, and a grandmother who possesses a full complement of the humanity and understanding of women's health issues that Eric Schmitt so sorely lacks.

The citizens of Missouri have a clear choice in the race for United States Senator.  Trudy is a caring and compassionate human being who places people first.  Eric, on the other hand, is just a politician.  Trudy Busch Valentine will serve us, and Eric Schmitt will do the bidding of his dark money overlords and work to benefit them and himself.

Early voting is already open in the show-me state.

Go vote Missouri!

Roe the vote!
