Corey Lewandowski, a former advisor to Donald Trump and his first presidential campaign manager in the 2016 campaign, seems to have fallen out of favor with his old boss. It was announced this week that Trump's Justice Department is investigating Lewandowski for using his former position with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for financial gain.
A Trump official using a government position for personal financial gain? Shocking! Say it ain't so, Corey, say it ain't so!
Lewandowski did not fill a traditional, established position at DHS, but was instead appointed as a "temp" hire to be a special assistant to Trump's original DHS Secretary (for his second term), Kristi Noem. He reportedly worked directly under Noem, right out of her office. Last March when Trump fired Noem, Lewandowski's services at DHS were no longer required.
There were news stories during Kristi Noem's tenure as head of DHS about her alleged extravagant behavior with taxpayer money - including the purchase of advertising that appeared to be political in nature (on an emergency basis that bypassed a bidding process), and her highly controversial purchase of multiple Gulfstream luxury jets, at least one of which had a bedroom on board. Allegations of suppliers providing cash for government contracts became so prevalent that Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee launched investigations.
The heat cooled when Noem and Lewandowski were booted from their cushy office, but now it is being turned back up, this time by forces inside the Trump administration. The US Department of Justice (an organization come cynics describe as Trump's peronal de facto law firm) is going after Corey Lewandowski with the full force of government.
What's that all about? Did somebody forget to split the take? Was there no tithe to the Supreme Being?
Corey, buddy, I sure hope you can afford a pardon!
