Number 7,000 Slides by Unheralded

by Pa Rock
Relentless Scribe

A major milestone for Pa Rock's Ramble went unnoticed on Tuesday, the day before yesterday, when this exhausted old typist pounded out the daily edition of this ball-and-cbain that I call a blog.  That entry, the one about Texas forcing public school students to read passages from the Bible, was entry number 7,000 in this pile of writing.

The Ramble was first published on Sunday evening, November 4, 2007, from the apartment where I was living at the time in Goodyear, Arizona.   I was bored and decided it would be a good opportunity to learn something new - so I sat down at the computer and taught myself to blog.

That initial offering was a clever (IMHO) political piece titled "Obama '08," in which I promoted my advocacy for a young and energetic US Senator from Illinois by the name of Barack Obama to be elected President in 2008 - and that joyous event occurred exactly one year later on Tuesday, November 4, 2008!

I like to think I put Obama over the top.  I like to think a lot of things.  Many days I write about whatever I happen to be thinking.

Over the years as I struggled to come up material for The Ramble that would interest others, the subject matter for my essays has grown to enompass not only politics, but also personal writings (stories, poems, family histories, and sometimes even old college assignments), personal travel experiences, stories about my kids and grandkids, tales of family pets and farm livestock, and all manner of curiosities which I felt deserved to be archived and saved for future generations to enjoy.  I have also shared this forum with a few old friends over the years for them to air their personal tales and frustrations.

There were a few days in the initial year of The Ramble when I failed to post anything, but by the time the second year rolled abound my OCD had taken a firm grip and an entry was appearing every day - and some days there have been multiple entries.  (The only exception occurred a few years ago when some senior bastard from Google pulled one posting that had run several years earlier due to a reader complaint - and the corporate bureaucrat then threatened to shut me down - but I'm still here, and he probably is, too - but somewhere an arc is slowly bending.)

If any of my descendants ever wonder what Pa Rock was really like, my life is on full display in mind-numbing detail at Pa Rock's Ramble.  Stop by again - any time.  If I'm still upright and riding the planet, I'll still be typing!

Obama, '28!
