My congressman, Rep. Jason Smith, a Republican from Missouri's 8th congressional district, hasn't been embarrassed in any of those impolite Town Halls like some of hjis colleagues have. No siree, Bob, he has not!
Several Republican congressmen and at least one US senator have come face-to-face with vocal and angry constituents at recent Town Halls and listening events. People are flocking to those gatherings demanding to be heard. They are raging at the way Elon Musk and his overpaid crew of entitled teenagers and twenty-somethings are destroying government services. It has gotten so bad that Republican Party officials and even House Speaker Mike Johnson are encouraging members not to host public events - and instead hold tele-conferences which can be more easily controlled.
Public access to elected officials should be limited, they say, and opportunities to ask questions strictly restrained. That's how democracy works best, you see, in dignified silence.
Well, I'm proud to report that my congressman, Jason Smith, has been out in front of this issue ever since he has been in Congress. Jason, who likes to constantly boast about his chairmanship of the House Ways and Means Committee, has never held public Town Halls (that I am aware of) in his own district, and most likely never will. That's not how he rolls. Jason gets all the information he needs from his many friends at Fox News.
I am proud of my congressman for being well ahead of the curve on this very important matter. Why would Jason need to listen to the folks back home when he has Maria Bartiromo to keep him up to speed?
How are the increased tariffs on China going to play out with international sales of soybeans from Missouri, Jason? What does Maria think about it?
