They opposed F.D.R's New Deal and yearned for a time when the government did not interfere in an employer's right to dictate terms to workers. I remember seeing O.K. Armstrong orating at Springfield's Phelp's Grove Park. While I didn't care for his spiel, it struck me that here was end of a long line of politicians who took to the stump without the advantage of radio or television. Only a few dreamed of the internet back then.
